Bristol Municipal Stadium, which many refer to as the "Stone Castle," is a historic athletic facility located in Bristol, Tennessee. The stadium was built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) which was a New Deal agency that provided jobs during the Great Depression. This facility was constructed between 1934 and 1936 with the $34,000 construction cost shared between the federal government and the City of Bristol.
If you take a look at the stadium you quickly see why it earned the nickname the “Stone Castle”. It was built with Medieval Gothic architecture featuring arched entries and 20-foot high crenellated walls built from limestone.
With this structure being nearly 90 years old, it needed a bit of work to maintain its integrity so that it could continue to be used. Over the years, it has seen football games, track and field events, band competitions, and graduation ceremonies. MB&R took on the job to maintain this historic landmark. Because of it being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, certain protocols had to be followed to ensure that this structure continues to show its historic charm. MB&R followed these procedures perfectly and gave the structure a new life so that it can continue to host guests for decades to come. Check out the facebook post to see all of the updates!
Attending a game or event at the stadium now provides modern conveniences in a historical location. In this 90 year old stadium, guests will now find accessibility pathways throughout the stadium ensuring everyone has proper access regardless of any mobility restrictions. The new viewing terraces allow a different glimpse of the field from an elevated level.
The new enhancements extend to the visitors side with updated accessible restrooms and a more welcoming lockerroom facility. Guests should be excited to play here!
Sound and lights enhance all events and that has been brought up a level with this renovation. New lighting has been installed to improve evening events, and the renovated Ronnie Pickle Press Box now hosts the latest technology. The community of Bristol is so fortunate to have such a unique historical stadium, and now it is a more fun and comfortable experience to attend a football game or graduation event here.
